Science vs. Religion
Will science need to start mimicking the prophetlitizing strategies of religion to win back the minds of America? Some think it does.
I do think that if we're going have any success in turning the tide of religious fundamentalism that (despite the outcome of the midterm term elections) is sweeping the nation, we need to "take off the gloves" as the article suggests and have more honest dialogue. Just because an idea has been around for 2,000 years doesn't grant it immunity from criticism, questioning or dissolution.
On the other hand I am worried about the sometimes harsh and condescending attitudes of people like Richard Dawkins. Science is not a singular pristine idea. Science is, unfortunately, informed by the individual prejudices held by those doing the inquiring. And science has not always been kind to those who were not white and male. Both science and religion have made some faux pas along the way, and I feel like science has to admit its own imperfection before trying to instill itself as the new secular messiah.
